Quincy Week 14 (Mission Week 53)

Happy Easter everyone!!! I hope yall had a great Easter celebrating the Resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ. I tried my best to follow Elder Stevensons invite on making Easter as special as Christmas but I can definitely tell why Elder Stevenson talked about it because I found myself forgetting to tell people Happy Easter but I would never forget to say Merry Christmas. It's a work in progress haha. Anyways I had a great week. Here's how it went

Monday
We had a game day at the Dolezals for Pday. Nothing much special after that

Tuesday
First district council of the transfer went well. Our whole district (minus our DL who went home) stayed together. It was my and Elder Whettens year mark so we brought some celebratory cookies and pie to share. During the afternoon we did some service in Greenville and then ate dinner with the Meyers. We had a lesson with Maddy and then we brought Nate (youth about to go on a mission) over to a "lesson" with Chad and it was probably the funniest lesson ever because Chad was DRUNK drunk and could barely operate but he sure appreciated us coming and talking about Jesus with him

Wednesday
We went over to get Elder Salinas knee checked out because it has been bothering him. If you didn't know he got hit by a car when he was in a biking area so he's got all sorts of problems haha. Jk but it is a result of him having to be on crutches and it strained his knee muscles. During the afternoon we contacted alot of people who are "yellow dots" which means that they have expressed interest but aren't being actively taught. We managed to clear up our area book and drop quite a few off then and a couple of then wanted to be taught so that's good. We had dinner and a lesson with Paul and Sherry Ann Herbert that went well.

Thursday
Elder Salinas had his appointment in the morning that he scheduled the day before. We had our weekly planning session and then went out and contacted some people. We had a missionary failure with Michael because we asked her if she would like a Plan of Salvation pamphlet and she said yes (which we had just planned on doing during weekly planning) and neither of us had one in our bag 🤦‍♂️ We say we have one in the truck but just out of bad luck there's not one in there. We tell her that we will come back with one later and she said ok so we drive off and it turns out Elder Salinas had one in his bag the whole time so we turn right back around and go give it to her haha. Definitely couldve went better but it's a funny story. During the evening we had basketball.

Friday
I was on exchanges with Elder Turley and we had a great day!! We had 3 lessons planned that I was really looking forward to because they were with some of our favorite people to teach. We had a lesson with Linda in the morning. After lunch we had a lesson with Sidney and we made great progress with her. She had been doing Bible Studys with missionaries for a year and had never been taught a lesson or even been given a Book of Mormon so we changed that haha. We then headed off to Greenville and had a lesson with Lorraine. Afterwards we drove quite a ways away to one of the places that Brother Meyers suggested we proselyte. There was nothing there so we drove the 30 minutes back to town. Thanks Brother Meyers haha. We walked around Taylorsville and ate dinner there and then went back to Greenville for for contacting. We had a lesson with Brenda that fell through. We were supposed to meet up to switch back from exchanges at 8:30pm in Clear Creek but our companions didn't get there until 9:45....... we still had an hours drive back to Quincy so we got home very very late

Saturday
The Dolezals have some close family friends that have never gotten close to missionaries before but since I've been here they have become much more comfortable with us. They are really into disc golf as well so in the morning I actually got to participate in a disc golf tournament round!! We thought that it would be a great idea to continue to build our relationship with Blake (the 17 year old son) so it was us, Brother Dolezal, and Blake on a scorecard. Blake is actually really good good he took 1st put of 23 people playing. I got 7th out of 23. It was a fun morning. During the afternoon we continued to contact those yellow floors and clear out our area book. We found a couple of then which was nice. In the evening we had volleyball night with the ward.

Sunday (Happy Easter🐣)
We attended Greenville church meetings and then went over to lunch with the Meyers. We proselytefmd some around Greenville and the surrounding areas and then returned to Quincy. We had a correlation meeting with Carlos and then contacted some more people that night.

Lesson Reviews

Maddy
It was a short lesson because her mom wasn't feeling well and Maddy was pretty tired. We talked about her baptism date and she said that she wants to push it back a month. We said that this is a good idea because we haven't had a lesson in 4 weeks and before she is baptized we need to be meeting consistently as well as coming to church as often as she can. We invited her to pray about being baptized on May 6.

Jordan
We were there to see Aaron but he wasn't home so we talked to Jordan and he said that he would be interested in learning about Jesus Christ and said he would take a pamphlet. We have him a Restoration overview and will come back tomorrow to talk more about it.

Crystal
We came to see if she's interested at all in taking lessons. Her baby daughter is sick and she is going through alot right now so we shared a scripture and testified that the Gospel of Jesus Christ can help her feel comfort and peace. We asked if she would be interested in developing her relationship with Him and she said yes. We set a return date for next week.

Sherry Ann
We had a great lesson with Sherry Ann. We used a block diagram thing to map out the Plan of Salvation and taught each principle. We focused on how the Plan is possible because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the love Heavenly Father has for us. She seemed to get everything but at the end she was a bit overwhelmed with all the info we gave so we decided to not talk about baptism with her. We will try to set a date next time.

Linda
She read the Plan of Salvation pamphlet and had taken notes and had questions ready for us. She pretty much agreed with all of the things that we taught her and we cleared up some things that she misunderstood in the pamphlet. We talked about temples and family history and how it relates to the Plan of Salvation. We explained what covenants we make at the temple and how that's why we are into genealogy because we believe that we can do these ordinances for our ancestors. We also talked about spiritual gifts and patriarchal blessings. Linda threw us in for a loop when she said that this would probably be the last time she meets with us but she is extremely grateful for the knowledge that we have shared with her. We told her that we have only shared a sliver of knowledge and that if she reads the Book of Mormon then she will have the desire to meet with us more to answer questions. She said that she would and will give us a call. We're going to get her a big print Book of Mormon.

Sidney
We asked her what she knew about our church and she had a few things but not much. We taught the entire Restoration and emphasized on the Great Apostasy and how there was a need for a Restoration. We talked about the First Vision and how the Bible and the Book of Mormon go hand in hand. We testified that by reading the Book of Mormon she will feel of the Spirit and will Co to knowledge that it is the word of God. We also talked about how if the Book of Mormon is true then the entire church is true. She said that she had never heard any of this and that she would accept a Book of Mormon. We will go over on Tuesday and read from it together.

Lorraine
We read 3 Nephi 27: 13-22 and discussed the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We asked what she knew about each principle, what it means to her, and went based off her answer. We dove into the Restoration a little bit again when we talked about baptism because she didn't get why her baptism wasn't valid as a kid. We used the analogy of a plate breaking and people picking up the pieces but not having the full plate. We explained that priesthood authority was one piece of the plate that was lost but restored when the full plate came back to the Earth. She also had some questions that don't really line up with doctrine. We were able to clear those things up and ended by asking if she were to know the truth of these things if she would be baptized. She said she would but then said that she believes she already has been because if she was baptized again then she would be betraying her parents beliefs :( Hopefully she'll allow the Spirit to touch her and change her mind

Connie
We asked her if she would be interested in having discussions and she said yes. We gave her a brief overview of the Gospel of Jesus Christ pamphlet and testified that abiding by it then her relationship with Jesus Christ will grow. We set a return appointment for April 22.

Will
We asked if he had a belief in Jesus Christ and he said not really but he would be interested in developing his relationship and faith in Christ. We gave an overview of the GOJC and testified that living it will help him grow his faith and increase his relationship with Jesus Christ.

That's it from this week. I love yall!!!!

Have a great week
